Our school is named after James Pinckney Henderson, the first elected governor of Texas.  Henderson was born in North Carolina, on March 31, 1808.  He studied law and was admitted to the bar to practice law at the age of 21.  When he arrived in Texas in 1836, he joined the army.  His first assignment was to recruit Americans for similar service, and then was appointed Texas' attorney general and eventually secretary of state by President Sam Houston.
