This project is designed to teach students about animals
that are extinct and non extinct.
Instructional Objectives
use internet to research extinct and non extinct animals
increase awareness of animals around the world
use problem solving to add animals to zoo
science and geography objectives
Content
Students and/or groups may take
the information given about an extinct/non extinct animal and discover
which animal is being described. A new animal description will be
given each week. Once the student/group discover the name of the
animal they will need to provide additional information about the animal
using a "worksheet" provided. All of that information in submitted.
If the answers and information are correct, that student/group will be
"given" that animal to keep in their zoo.
Grade Level Targeted
Mainly grade 4, but other elementary grades are welcome.
Activities
Register name or group that will build their "zoo" plus the name they will
give their "zoo."
Each week, begin researching their new animal and submit information.
Animals will be sent when correct information is received.
Timeline
The Zoo Keeper program can be self-paced. A new
animal will be introduced each week for a period of 18 weeks. Deadline
for registration will be the end of the first week. After those 18
weeks, student's/group's names will be published with the number of animals
they have acquired for their zoo.
Assessment
Students/groups will be assessed based on the number
of animals they have in their "zoo."
