Where in the World...?

Introduction

This activity is designed to motivate students to integrate critical thinking skills and technology to reach their maximum potential in being life-long problem solvers.

Instructional Objectives

Students will use the internet to research clues.
Students will use problem solving skills to locate other students.
Students will use conventions of the English language to generate clues.

Content

This problem-solving project involves students creating clues from factual information about their city and posting the clues on the web page. In addition, other students from other schools will be asked to provide clues about their cities. These clues will also be posted on the web page. All visitors to the web page will be invited to use the clues to try to reveal the cities for each group of clues. At the end of the project, the answers will be posted so that participants can check their answers.

Grade level 2-5

Activities

Students will be given a list of questions and web sights to use to locate information about their country, state, region, and city.
Students will create clues from the questions they answered to post on a web page for others to read.
Visitors to the sight will have the option of answering questions to provide clues about their own locations. These clues will be added to the web page.
Extension Pool students from the project campus will be required to use another school's clues to try to locate that school.
Provided the answers to the clues at the end of the project.

Timeline

August	Provide project school with questions to be answered.
September-October	Students use the internet to research questions and compose clues. Post questions, clues and response location to the Internet.
October-December	Use the Internet to solve clues from other schools to locate those other schools.
December	Post the answers to the Internet

Assessment

How many schools provided clues for others to locate them?
Were the Extension Pool students from the project school able to solve the location(s).
