Would You Repeat That?

Patterns

Math can be characterized as a science of patterns.  The term pattern is used in a variety of ways in everyday life. Patterns in quilts are thought to have had an important part in the Underground Railroad.  According to the oral tradition, slaves, free blacks and white abilitionists alike,  used quilts made of familiar patterns to communicate.  The pioneer families were proud of their quilts that were created for special events in their lives and  to honor important  people in American history.  When you study quilt patterns, see if you can find a special story or meaning in the design.
